Having only one little guy who is too scared to go on the big water slide presented a problem of entertainment for our toddler. We needed something to keep him busy so he wasn’t getting in the way of the older kids having fun outside. Step 2 asked of they could send the Grill & Play Patio Cafe and the Play and Shade Pool for Aiden to review and I said yes, because it was the perfect solution. Ya’ll know by now that I am a huge sucker for food related toys because I am a chef so to see my little guy pretending to cook makes me giddy! And we welcomed the pool thinking it would be a nice spot to cool off!
We put up the pool first because we had a scorching week last week. The hot muggy kind that made it hard to be out. When I got the pool out it was so simple all I had to do was screw the brace of the umbrella pole and that was all there was to it. Then we put water in it. Now Aiden loved it because there are cups that you can fill and stack and water goes on the wheel to make it move.
My little guy loves anything that moves so he is always and forever playing with that. I haven’t seen him sit in the pool yet though. THIS particular pool is small. There is no way I could fit two toddlers in there. But it would be great for babies to splash in. Still the whole idea with the cups and the wheel keep Aiden happy.
Then it was time to put the grill together. In hindsight I should have not tried to put it together when the humidity was like 80% or when I had PMS. Because it was not a good idea. I cussed because I couldn’t slide the first piece onto the next. I got mad and threw it. Then I took a breath and went SLOWER and it went on like butter. After that it was a matter of screwing stuff to secure. You CAN use a power screwdriver but I didn’t. I used some elbow grease and the screws were sharp enough to pierce the plastic anyway. When it was put together my 8 year old daughter came running to play with Aiden and they didn’t move for an hour, even when it was getting dark. Aiden sort of became the customer and Alyssa was the chef for a bit doing the grilling and serving him.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the little built in seats! I think they are just adorable and Aiden really loves them.
Stickers were minimal on this compared to his Master Chef kitchen so that was a plus. No batteries needed either! There is a fridge and oven and a “grill” along with a sink and spout and molded holders for things like condiments.
My favorite? I love that my 2.5 year old kid took a “steak” and took the salt and pepper shakers and seasoned his meat before he “grilled” it. THAT folks is impressive. I think this kid is going to be a chef like his mom.
