I’ve reviewed cars before, and each I loved for different reasons but when I was asked to review the 2015 Kia Soul, I was 9 million percent saying yes with complete excitement. I got to test drive the Soul for a week and I can tell you right now that I did not want to let them come get it because I fell head over heels for this little green car.
It’s not that little actually, its a spacious hatchback with absolutely incredible head room. It feature a full length moon roof, where the first panel opens up as a traditional sun roof. With a flick of a switch the entire top of the car became a place where we could view the stars on any given night.
Features that are standout for me in any car are gas economy, handling and sound. The Exclamation (!) model I tested came fully loaded, meaning it had all the bells and whistles you can get and it still came in at around 25k which is really reasonable for a car that can fit an entire family. The wheels are 18 inch and what I call “fat” which makes this car handle like a dream. I never had to brake on my normal curves!
Sound. Oh my word. This car is practically MADE for an amazing sound experience. I have an 18 year old son and his friend that lives with us, and my husband who is actually into audio recording and knows good sound and they couldn’t wait to test the limits of the stock system. We tested the bass capabilities extensively because, well, I love good bass! Absolutely superb sound, the best of any car I reviewed yet. It probably helps that there is a large speaker right in the middle of the dash!
I averaged 25 MPG driving this car on country roads and a few freeways. Gas mileage was pretty decent for the size of the car and the power. Eco mode definitely saved a good gallon of gas. Overall I fell in love with this car, the back side being a box grew on me and I even came to love the color. The only thing I would give for a negative is that it isn’t the smoothest ride. The wheels being 18 inches means less space between the bottom of the car and the road and that translates to feeling more of the road. This can be taken care of if you get the mid range model which has almost all the same bells and whistles with a smoother ride.
I love this car, so much that it is the car I want to buy some day. I am sure I will review even more cars but this one has my heart and my heart is set on buying a Kia.
