As I type this, two of my children are staying up as late as they can. Why? Because the half day of school they had today marked the last day of the school year and that means it is SUMMER VACATION! Now that all three of my babies (well one is almost 16 but still my baby) are home with me it is my duty and my pleasure to take care of them and that includes keeping them safe.
In the summer I make my kiddos wear sunscreen. A couple of them are pretty lucky in that they tan with high spf on anyway but for my little guy who is only four, we apply and apply, and often. He still has that sweet baby soft skin and I want to protect it. For me, I burn and peel and lately see more and more brown spots popping up on my skin. I try not to be in the sun but this summer, with planning to walk a bit, I am going to lather on the sunscreen.
Another thing we deal with in the summer is mosquitoes. They are really bad this year and without using a spray with DEET in it, we have no defense against them so we are trying to find ways to stay safe from them. Not only are they painful but they do carry other people’s and animals blood, ew!
Lastly, we need to be safe when we travel. I don’t mean just making sure the house is secure. In our case there is never a time when our house is empty due to people living upstairs. I am talking about our identities. When you travel, the chances are so much higher for people to swipe your information and try to steal your identity. I am actually a LifeLock member and thankful for it too, as I had a close call a few months ago when some company tried to trick me into giving information about myself saying I had a phone bill from 2006. I didn’t own a cell phone that year. I called and reported them to LifeLock and they put a flag on there that would alert them if this company tried to use my SSN.
There are so many victims of identity theft these days thanks to technology and the internet. I am glad I have LifeLock protection because I very well could have been a victim had I not been able to call them and report the fraudulent company! I feel like my family can be safer this summer knowing that there is someone keeping an eye on my identity so that I can still be the one and only ME. 🙂
